Spix's red-handed howler : ウィキペディア英語版 | Spix's red-handed howler
Spix's red-handed howler (''Alouatta discolor'') is a vulnerable species of howler monkey native to the southeastern Amazon in Brazil.〔 Major threats include deforestation and hunting. It was previously considered a subspecies of the red-handed howler, but unlike most individuals of that species, the back of the Spix's red-handed howler is yellowish-brown to reddish-brown.〔Gregorin, R. (2006). ''( Taxonomia e variação geográfica das espécies do gênero Alouatta Lacépède (Primates, Atelidae) no Brasil. )'' Rev. Bras. Zool. 23(1).〕 The primary food source of this species is ripe and unripe fruit; it has the highest reliance on this food source of all species in this genus. A variety of species provide fruit year-round, but leaves supplement the sugars of the fruits with protein in their diets. When these food sources are limited, the howlers also supplement their diets with more mature leaves, flowers, woody plant matter, and sometimes fungi to possibly help digest the increased plant matter.〔Pinto L.P., Setz E.Z.F. (2004). Diet of ''Alouatta belzebul discolor'' in an Amazonian Rain Forest of Northern Mato Grosso State, Brazil.〕 ==References==
